Joan Capaiu Greene joined CDCA in 1980 and is our 3rd Lifetime Member. She shared her collection of the first Canaan Dog newsletters ever written with members interested in early club history. In 2007, she helped defeat California’s legislative effort to regulate all pet ownership through mandatory spay/neuter laws. She continues today to inform our membership in her role as Legislative Liaisons Committee co-chair.

Joan served multiple BOD terms as Director West. She served as Recording Secretary, co-chaired our Web Committee, was a CDCA Herding Chair and worked on our Code of Ethics. She chaired the Desert Bred Canaan Dog Registry, was listed as a 2018 National Specialty Sweepstakes Breeder/Judge and is a CDCA Mentor.  

Joan remembered departed club members by writing wonderful Memorials.  She remembered dogs by coordinating a Memorial Gathering at the 39thCDCA National Specialty and with her 2013 DOTY nomination she acknowledged a very special dog. Joan is a knowledgeable breeder and owner who is willing to help all who reach out to her.

Many have relied on Joan’s expertise and experience. For first-time Canaan Dog owners, she explained how CD behavior and instinct differed from those of my previous dogs. Joan always makes time to listen, advise and help.
