CDCA 2020 National Specialty
Wilmington, Ohio
Friday, October 16, 2020
in conjunction with the Clermont County Kennel Club all-breed shows
at Eukanuba Hall, Roberts Centre, Wilmington, Ohio
Chair: Denise Gordon
The Canaan Dog Club of America, Inc would like to inform the fancy that we have made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 National Specialty and related events to be held this coming October.
After an exhaustive investigation, we have regretfully concluded that it simply not feasible to ask our members and friends to attend such an event during these difficult and unsafe times.
Given the challenges of ever changing state restrictions on travel, the constraints of social distancing, the possibility that the show could be cancelled at the last minute by state or local officials, and of course the risk to our judges, stewards and exhibitors alike, we feel this is a prudent decision on many levels.
We will be exploring possibilities for online celebrations during the National Week, and working with AKC as we move forward. Much is still to be decided. Please allow the Board and Specialty Committee time to work through these challenges.
We thank all of our members, supporters and exhibitors, both past and future, for their good wishes and support. And we will see you ringside November 2021 in Tucson, Arizona for our 2021 National.
Stay safe.

Obedience / Rally Trial Chair – Must have previously exhibited in AKC obedience and rally trials; cannot exhibit at the 2020 National Specialty obedience/rally trials if you take this position but can be in the rest of the National Specialty show (i.e., regular and non-regular conformation) as well as the subsequent Clermont County Kennel Club shows.
Trophy Chair – Creativity is key to this job! Duties include finding suitable items for the National Specialty, Designated Specialty and Supported Entry shows, recruiting donors for the general trophy fund or specific trophies, setting up the trophy table prior to the show, and assisting the stewards in presentation of trophies for the classes. Will NOT need to order ribbons and rosettes for the weekend (that job is covered already). Can exhibit your dog(s); the NS chair will cover your job while you are in the ring.
Catalog Ad & Day of National Specialty Sales – Duties include receiving camera-ready ads for the catalog prior to the deadline (see above) and sending them to the Superintendent and selling catalogs at the National Specialty. Can exhibit your dog(s); the NS chair or a designated substitute will cover your job while you are in the ring.
Hospitality (Day of National Specialty) – No experience needed! Duties include making sure the judges and stewards have drinks in the ring cooler prior to the show and be liaison between Roberts Centre catering and the CDCA for the lunch and post-show refreshments. Can exhibit your dog(s) if no contact with the judge prior to the show. No Judges' transportation needed as all judges will be driving themselves to Wilmington for the National.
Thursday Night Welcome Reception - Duties include putting together welcome bags to be distributed at the reception (NS chair will help to obtain local items for the bags), making sure the room is ready and set out the refreshments.
Saturday Banquet Auction – Duties include being clearinghouse for auction items (hotel will accept shipments if there is a designated person) and setting up the items on the tables at the awards banquet. Can also be the auctioneer if you so wish.
Sunday Specialty Club Raffle – The Clermont County KC allows specialty clubs to have their general public raffle during the Sunday all-breed show. If you would like to help the NS chair organize a small raffle to help fund the costs of our National (very little time involvement), this is the job for you!
