Specialty Site Information
Our site for the 2008 Specialty is the beautiful Wine Country of upstate
New York. The Host Hotel will be the site of our meetings and the Awards
Banquet. The show site itself overlooks Seneca Lake at Sampson State Park.
Seneca Lake is one of the Finger Lakes and September in upstate New York means
autumnal leaves, wine tours, shopping, hiking and important historical
locations. All show events (Conformation, Junior Showmanship, Obedience, Rally
and Agility) are offered at the same location. In addition, camping is
available at Sampson State Park.
Hospitality, meetings and the banquet will be located at the Host Hotel
(Holiday Inn) in Waterloo, about 10 minutes from the show site.
For the Specialty proper, we will be in the Specialty Field of the show
site. We will have plenty of room for grooming, crating, ringside hospitality
and trophies. There will be ample ringside tenting to provide protection from
sun or rain - it is upstate New York in September after all!
Please plan ahead! Due to New York State regulations, RABIES
CERTIFICATES ARE REQUIRED FOR ANY DOGS BEING BROUGHT ON TO THE SHOW
GROUNDS. The State Park Service will not accept Rabies titer reports.
Rabies Certificates will be checked as you enter the park.
Hotel Reservations, Camping and Information
A block of rooms have been reserved at the following area motel until August
23, 2008. Please mention the CDCA (reference code CDC) when making your
reservation.
Host Hotel: Holiday Inn
- Waterloo, 2468 NYS Route 414 North, Waterloo NY 13165, telephone
315-539-5011. The pet fee is being waived for the dog show - please help us
maintain our good history. No bathing of dogs in rooms is allowed. Room rate is
$119.99 - a discount of about 25% off normal rates. The hotel offers FREE High
Speed Internet Access, a fitness facility, outdoor heated pool, tennis courts,
on-site guest laundry facilities and two on-site restaurants.
Camping is available at the show site at Sampson State Park. Reservations
must be sent to the Camping Coordinator for the circuit. There are shower
houses in the camping loops. Shuttle buses run from the camping loops to the
show site all day each day during the shows. It is possible to groom at your
campsite, hop the shuttle and walk into the ring!
Camping reservations will open in August of 2008. Full details will be
mailed with the premium lists and posted on-line as soon as available. Make
sure you read the camping information and details carefully! If you want to
camp with someone, your reservations should be submitted together. This is a
popular show for campers - we recommend you get your camping reservations in as
soon as possible!
The Wine Country Cluster Camping Coordinator and
reservation opening date is still pending.
PLEASE NOTE: The CDCA
Room Policy will be in effect and strictly enforced. We recommend that
you examine your room on check-in and if you see any damage that might
subsequently be attributed to your dog(s), please report it to a member of the
Hotel Staff as soon as possible.
Additional Area Hotels
Many additional hotels may be found in the premium list. Call for
availability and to confirm pet policy. CDCA Room Policy applies
to these and any other hotels/campgrounds. Below are a few additional

addition to planning for hot, sunny conditions, we recommend that you come
equally prepared for everything from wind to rain to cold, especially at night.
As the show site is on the lake, temperatures are generally 10 degrees cooler
than they will be in Waterloo at the host hotel. Layers are especially

CGC Testing will be conducted by CDCA Members Amy Preston, assisted
by Judy March Rosenthal. Contact either of them with any questions. YOUR
DOG'S CURRENT RABIES CERTIFICATE WILL BE REQUIRED to either be brought to the
test or a copy mailed to the coordinators in advance of the test.

Wednesday September 24th - Judges Breed Study Group 7:00pm (no fee) -
Host Hotel
Judges, owners and breeders are cordially invited to attend
this seminar which is being facilitated by Cindy Grupp.
The CDCA
actively encourages and supports judges' and breeders' education. The
preservation of the Canaan Dog as a herding and flock guardian dog depends on
the entire fancy understanding all aspects of proper conformation. This
illustrated seminar, designed to educate judges, carefully details the points
of conformation which a Canaan Dog needs to do its job. Here is your chance to
learn the differences and commonalities between Canaan Dogs and other herding
breeds.
Certificate of Participation available to attending
Judges.
Thursday, September 25th - Ringside Mentoring - time TBA
Ringside mentoring during the National Specialty will also be available with
preference going to those judges who attended the Wednesday evening
seminar.
CDCA Annual General Meeting
Wednesday, September 24th - afternoon - Host Hotel
This is your
club, and the AGM is your opportunity to have a say in the decisions that will
affect you as club members.
Trophy Fund
This year we are lucky to be able to have breed, obedience, rally,
sweepstakes, agility and junior handling all offered on the day of our
national! To support all these events, we need your donations! We have
special trophies selected for the national, sure to make 2008 a year to
remember! All donations will be acknowledged in “The Kib” and if
received in time, in the specialty catalog. Donate in honor of that special
dog, in memory of that important person or just because! No donation too big or
too small!
Make checks payable to CDCA and mail to: CDCA 2008 Trophy Fund, c/o 2008

Picture Yourself ... And See Your Dogs In Action, Part II
Domino Video Company is available to tape our Specialty judging
(Conformation and Sweepstakes) IF WE CAN PRESELL enough copies to make it worth
their while to come. DVC produces DVDs which “become the Official
National Club Archival Record and each dog is identified in accordance with the
information listed in the dog show's catalog. People use our videos to study
the current state of a breed, to find sires and dams to use in a breeding
program, and to compare one's own dogs with others exhibited in our
videos.” Each order will be shipped in a boxed and labeled DVD
approximately one month after the Specialty.
However, we need to PRESELL these DVDs in order to be able to afford DVC. If
we don't fill our quota, funds will be refunded to those who placed a
pre-order. Each DVD will cost $50 (includes shipping & handling.) Please
make checks payable to CDCA and send to Amy Schumaier, 2008 CDCA
Specialty Treasurer, to ARRIVE ON OR BEFORE JANUARY 2, 2008.
Handling with Style
Wednesday September 24th - Handling Seminar - morning (no fee) -
Host Hotel.
Susan Parsons, a former professional handler, current AKC judge and
Canaan Dog fan, will be offering a handling seminar for all levels and
abilities. Come with your dogs, your questions and get in some practice before
the shows! A good chance to help you and your dogs get comfortable in ring
situations.
Auctions
Thursday, September 25th - Awards Banquet - Host Hotel
We Need Your Good Stuff! As usual, we will be hosting an Auction at the
National Specialty Awards Supper. Canaan Dog related art, memorabilia,
accessories, etc. are needed to make this auction a success! As with our
beloved breed, it is quality and uniqueness that count, not quantity! Proceeds
will benefit the CDCA to help fund our Specialties, so please donate generously
and early.
NEW FOR 2008!
We will add a couple of new twists to our auctions this year; a Silent Auction
(which will start Tuesday night at the Welcome Party) and our traditional
auction — the Not-So-Silent portion of the night — when our
presenters make fools of themselves for the sake of the CDCA. We're looking
for "Big Ticket" items for this portion of the night. We're determined to bring
in more loot than ever before for our beloved CDs. Please start collecting
items to donate to the event. Nothing is too big or too small, too silly or too
staid!
AKC/CHF Canaan Dog Donor Advised Fund Special Auction
We invite
regional Canaan Dog clubs, Canaan Dog owners and friends to create
regional/area baskets that highlight your area of the world! Florida residents
might include citrus products in their basket, the Great Lakes club might
supply us with Chicago Red Hots and international visitors are invited to bring
their local delicacy. These baskets will be on display for early preview and
drooling. A special auction will be held for these baskets, with all funds
earmarked for the American Kennel Club/Canine Health Foundation Canaan Dog
Donor Advised Fund.
If you have items for either auction, please send a description of the items
and its/their value(s) to Wendy Sanchez.
If you need to ship an item ahead of your arrival, please ship it to:
CDCA, c/o Margaret Pough, Ithaca NY
(Deadline for receipt of shipped
articles is Saturday, September 20th, 2008)
Thank you!
