2007 CDCA National Specialty
There were 48 Canaan Dogs entered in the 2007 National Specialty, the 10th
anniversary of Canaans in the AKC Herding Group, which was held on Friday,
September 7th at the Clermont County Fairgrounds in Owensville, Ohio. There was
a total of 89 entries, including 5 entries in obedience, 7 entries in rally and
10 entries in the Parade of Titleholders. Our judges were Mrs. Pat Hastings
from Aloha, Oregon (Breed & Jr Showmanship), Mrs. Carol O'Bryan from
Sebastopol, California (Junior/Senior Puppy Sweepstakes & Veteran
Sweepstakes), and Mr. Richard Strong from Indianapolis, Indiana (Obedience
& Rally). We were lucky to be indoors with air-conditioning that day as the
weather was hot and humid outside; we weren't as fortunate the following 2 days
for the supported entry Clermont County KC shows as we were outdoors, but
thankfully had a CDCA designated tent for shade and shelter from the afternoon
thunderstorms. The weather took pity on us as our herding instinct test on
Monday, Sept. 10th was cool, overcast, and low humidity.
National Specialty show and herding instinct test results are listed below
and the Clermont County KC supported entry show results can be obtained from
the superintendent, Jack Onofrio Shows, website (www.onofrio.com).
Thanks to everyone who made this year's National very "Special"!!!
I want to thank everyone who came to the National (whether showing or not),
including our Sweeps breeder judge, Carol O'Bryan, and made it a great success!
Of course, I want to congratulate Rosette and Charley for taking a "pet" puppy
and making him a National Specialty winner and for their WB/BW/BOS/Best Puppy
with their fantastic girl, Breeze! Congratulations also to all the winners of
their classes this past weekend and to those gaining titles or legs towards
their titles in Rally and the herding test! Our judge, Pat Hastings, said that
we had a wonderful group of people who came to watch and/or show and I do
believe it!

2007 National Specialty Herding Instinct Test
Sixteen Canaan Dogs were entered in the 2007 CDCA herding instinct test held
at Dogwood Acres Farm in Bethel, Ohio, on Monday, September 10th. The evaluator
was Ms. Dana Hasemeier, an AKC herding judge and a Welsh Cardigan Corgi
breeder, who not only tested the dogs, but gave an impromptu herding clinic
that all exhibitors and spectators appreciated. Eleven of the 16 dogs passed,
giving a pass rate of 69% for this year's National Specialty test; 6 Canaans
attained their CDCA Herding Certified (HC) title, 1 earned the 2nd qualifying
score of the 3 required for the CDCA Herding Certified Excellent (HCX), and 4
attained their HCX titles. Ms. Hasemeier awarded the Best Herding Potential
trophy (for dogs with no prior livestock experience), a stock stick donated by
Denise Gordon in memory of “Wolf” (the #1 herding Canaan Dog &

Though the premium list gives a July 1st deadline for catalog ads for the
CDCA National Specialty, I am extending that deadline to July 30th. All ads
must be camera-ready, however. If they aren't, they will be returned as I
don't have the capabilities to make them camera ready.
If anyone has any questions regarding the catalog ads (or anything else
about the National), please feel free to contact me.
I had received word that some folk were confused where to send their entries
for the CDCA National Specialty, so I thought I better clarify it.
I'm the one to receive the entries for the National Specialty, whereas, for
the supported entry shows (Clermont County Kennel Club), the superintendent is
Onofrio.
If you need a premium list for the Clermont County Kennel Club shows, go to
the Onofrio website; it
will be listed in the Complete Show Listing (under the Show Information
icon).
If anyone has any questions regarding either the National or the Clermont
County Kennel Club (I also belong to CCKC), please feel to contact me.
