CDCA Herding - partial results

Sorry that I dont have the names of everyone who entered and passed,
but we did have an excellent turnout. Others will post the complete
results soon's they can, Im sure. But until then ...

The breed now has about 5-6 new HC titleists, and I think there are
three new HCX dogs - could be more! Three more got 2nd legs on the
HCX titles as well, if I remember correctly.

Judge: Deborah Pollard (AKC, ASCA, AHBA herding judge)

Best Herding Potential and an HC went to Pistol, Dorey's young male.
He certainly lived up to his name - wow!

Best experienced herding dog and an HCX went to Indy, Mark & Ursula's
youngster.  I was late getting there and missed his performance;
sigh. Sounds like he too had fun with the woolies.

Thanks to everyone who helped set up, brought food, and oversaw the
test proceedings. Y'all did great! Marsha Bain even provided a
wooly squeaky toy for every dog that entered - thank you!!

The Friday following the National Specialty featured two fun matches for Canaan Dogs. Both were held at the same location in Dixon, CA (about 40 miles from the specialty site).

The first one was for the Sacramento Valley Herding Group Association and the second was the Northern California Canaan Dog Fanciers.

This is to encourage everyone who is even thinking of coming to the specialty this October (in California); we will be offering all regular obedience classes and we will also be offering Pre-Novice obedience classes.

I know that there are many of you that have trained your canaan dog and taken obedience classes, but are not certain about entering formal obedience trials because:

  1. Not entirely certain what will happen during the off-lead exercises. or
  2. Don't want the potential of being embarassed by your very intelligent but very independent dog, and have all the people with their golden retrievers stare at you and not understand why your dog isn't being perfect.

That is why we are also offering the Pre-Novice!! All the exercises are done on lead - so you can come and show off how well behaved and wonderful your canaan dog is without having to worry about taking off that lead in public with an audience. Your audience will all be Canaan Dog owners! You will never find a more understanding and appreciative audience! (Except maybe your mom.)
