2007 CDCA Regional Specialty

I just returned from the first CDCA Regional Specialty Show, hosted by the Midwest Canaan Dog Club, and held in Jefferson, Wisconsin. 23 Canaan Dogs were entered (1 was absent), from as far away as Colorado, Texas and Ohio, as well as the closer Midwestern states of Illinois, Minnesota and Iowa. The judge was Normal Herbel. He was very nice with the Canaan Dogs. His suggestion to people showing Canaan Dogs was to teach them to stand for exam nicely. “After that, just let them have fun in the ring. Don't try to change this breed into something different. Just ask them to do one more thing — stand for exam.”

Here are the winners (listing AKC titles only):

All in all, it was a very successful first regional specialty weekend. Thank you to Show Chair Keith Shank, Show Secretary Cheryl Shank, Trophy Chair Donna Dodson, Ring Steward Bryna Comsky, and to Cheryl Hennings for taking care of catalog advertising and the raffle.

It was great to see all of the people who came from near and far. Same time next year! Next year's Midwest Specialty should be even better. We found a great restaurant for a banquet, and we hope to see even more Canaan Dogs and their people next year!
